Our statement of intent
Vale Community Church believes every person is made in the image of God and deserves to be welcomed, included and treated fairly. This policy applies across everything we do — Sunday worship, The Table, Messy Church, KidZone, Storytellers, Doubts & Drinks and every other programme or event — and to everyone involved with VCC: staff, volunteers, trustees and participants.
Our commitment to inclusion
In light of our Christian calling to love our neighbours and welcome the stranger, we hold that all people are loved by God and invited into His Kingdom life. We welcome everyone — regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, marital status, race, or any other characteristic — to full participation in our community life, worship and service.
As a member church of the Baptist Union of Great Britain (Baptists Together) and the Central Baptist Association, we hold to the historic Baptist Declaration of Principle.
- Access to services — our community activities, including The Table, Messy Church and holiday clubs, are genuinely open to all residents, whatever their background, belief or ability.
- Recruitment & volunteering — we recruit on the basis of skills, experience and suitability, and never discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnic origin, disability, age, pregnancy or maternity.
- Treatment of individuals — everyone is treated with dignity and respect; bullying, harassment or victimisation will not be tolerated.
- Accessibility — we seek to make our activities, communications and venues as accessible as possible, and to make reasonable adjustments. If you have specific access requirements, please tell us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Our legal framework
VCC is committed to complying with the Equality Act 2010 and will not unlawfully discriminate against anyone on the grounds of the nine protected characteristics. As a Christian church and registered charity, we may in limited circumstances rely on the exceptions the Act provides to religious organisations — but our community programmes are offered to the whole community without condition.
